West Coast - Southern Medical Service is a local and privately owned business. This enables us to react quickly to the needs of the communities and their citizens, to make changes and decisions without the need of a "corporate headquarters" approval. Our management is available 24 hours a day - 7 days a week which enables us to adapt and respond to any situation at any given time.

OVERVIEW

West Coast Medical Transfer Service was founded and incorporated by J. Raymond Shannon in 1980. The company began providing inter-facility transfers in Manatee County, Florida in 1981, followed by servicing Sarasota County, Florida in 1985.

Due to the intensive growth within the industry. West Coast Medical acquired Southern Medical Ambulance Service of Sarasota in 1987. In July of 1994, West Coast Medical and Southern Medical merged to form West Coast-Southern Medical Service, Inc.

Since that time, West Coast-Southern Medical Service, Inc., has continued to provide state-of-the-art ambulance service to the west coast area of Florida, and has remained on the cutting edge of technology with the tremendous changes in the EMS field and health care system.

The management staff, most of which are also certified paramedics with critical care training are uniquely qualified to fulfill any specialized critical care transport needs. Currently with 13 ambulances, 7 ALS-paramedic staffed, and 6 BLS- EMT staffed, we service six counties on Florida's west coast.

In addition to inter-facility transfers within the state of Florida, we also provide out-of-state transports for patients who are unable to fly. West Coast is also called upon to back-up various counties with their 911 calls. In 2004 when the state of Florida was hit with numerous hurricanes, Charley, Frances and Ivan, to name a few; West Coast was called upon for evacuations of hospitals, private homes, and nursing homes from numerous counties on the east and west coasts. With over 55 employees consisting of EMTs, Paramedics, and Critical Care Paramedics we were able to work around the clock to provide mutual aid and assistance to those who were in harm's way of the hurricanes. Our staff is dedicated and committed to their EMT and Paramedic Oaths.

West Coast-Southern Medical Service, Inc., is continuing to grow and will stay committed to servicing the needs of Florida's residents, hospitals and health care facilities.

FLEET

West Coast -Southern Medical currently operates 13 ambulances in our fleet. 7 provide ALS service and 6 provide BLS services. Our fleet handles over 10,000 calls each year.

County COPCN's

West Coast-Southern Medical currently holds certificates to provide ambulance services in the following counties.

DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Highlands, Manatee, Sarasota

Emergency Evacuations can be provided to any county, it is considered mutual aid and does not require holding a state certification.

MUTUAL AID-911

Another function that West Coast - Southern Medical provides is 911 back-up services to counties in our primary service area.

MANAGEMENT

West Coast - Southern Medical has a highly qualified administrative staff that oversees the day-to-day operation of the company. Each member of the management team is a Paramedic or has another certification of specialty.

CONSTANTLY GROWING

As our primary service areas grow, so do we, adding new ambulances every year and increasing our medical staff.

In addition to growing in our current areas, we are also looking at expanding our services to the pan-handle area of Florida.
